Brokaw’s Apology: NBC News anchorman Tom Brokaw apologized on Wednesday’s “NBC Nightly News” for errors in a Jan. 4 story on federal forest management in Idaho, saying the network used two “inappropriate” videos with “what was otherwise an accurate report.” The apology came after Idaho’s Republican senator, Larry Craig, attacked the network on the Senate floor for “outrageous” tabloid journalism he compared to “Dateline NBC’s” botched General Motors truck story. Brokaw said one video showed dead fish from another forest and the other showed workers conducting tests on water where fish appeared to be dead, but were stunned to protect them during testing purposes.

Wrong date--Based on a story from Associated Press, The Times incorrectly reported Friday that Tom Brokaw had apologized on “NBC Nightly News” Wednesday for a story on federal forest management in Idaho. The apology actually was made Feb. 24 and had been reported at the time.
