Soccer All-Star Game Is Set for Saturday

Many of the area’s top high school seniors are expected to compete Saturday in the South Bay All-Star Soccer Classic at Torrance High.

The girls’ game, which will start at 5:30 p.m., will match players from the powerful Pioneer League against standouts from the Bay and Ocean leagues, Chadwick, Bishop Montgomery and El Segundo. John Jackson of Torrance and Stacy Chapman of South will coach the Pioneer all-stars and Jim Alotis of Peninsula will coach the other team.

The boys’ game, scheduled to start at 7:30, matches players from the Pioneer League, Bishop Montgomery and Chadwick against a team of all-stars from the Bay and Ocean leagues. Former U.S. national team goalie David Vanole, a Mira Costa graduate, and John Clarke of Redondo will coach the Ocean-Bay team and Johnny Marmelstein of Chadwick and Jeff Tuttle of South Torrance will coach the other squad.
