Obituaries : Juanita Sayer; Reporter and Political Activist

Juanita Sayer, 70, reporter, publicist, teacher and political activist. A native of Los Angeles, Ms. Sayer was educated at USC, where she later taught. She reported for Life, Look, and the Toronto Star, and founded her own public relations company. She served as press liaison for Sen. Thomas Kuchel (R-Calif.) in the 1950s, and in the 1960s was active in the civil rights movement. Ms. Sayer served on the 1962 Los Angeles County Grand Jury but resigned after five months, partly because she wanted to write an account of a Black Muslim riot the grand jury had investigated.
