HACIENDA HEIGHTS : 4 Teen-Age Bank Robbery Suspects Seized After Chase

Share

Four suspected teen-age gang members were in custody Friday in the robbery of a Hacienda Heights bank, authorities said.

On Thursday morning, three youths wearing bandannas entered a Bank of America office on South Azusa Avenue. Two of the robbers, with pistols drawn, leaped onto the tellers’ counter and demanded money while ordering everyone to the floor, investigators said.

No one was injured, although a bank security guard fired a few shots as the three youths fled in a black 1989 Hyundai driven by the fourth suspect. The robbers led officers on a brief chase on the Pomona Freeway, tossing two pillowcases containing about $800 and two handguns before they were pulled over by the California Highway Patrol, investigators said. The suspects, between 16 and 17 years of age and from the Compton-Gardena areas, are expected to be arraigned Monday in Pomona Superior Court.
