COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Powell Helps Titans Score Early and Often in Victory Over Chapman

Dante Powell hit two home runs, drove in four runs and stole two bases as Cal State Fullerton defeated Chapman, 12-1, in a nonconference baseball game Friday at Fullerton.

Powell, a sophomore center fielder, had two-run homer in the Titans’ five-run first inning.

Nate Rodriquez added a two-run single and D.C. Olsen singled in the first-inning onslaught.

Powell has 10 home runs, 41 runs batted in and 30 stolen bases for Fullerton (28-12), which is ranked ninth by Collegiate Baseball and 10th by Baseball America.

Rodriquez had three hits, and Olsen added a double and finished with three RBIs for Fullerton.

Mike Parisi (8-2) pitched seven innings, giving up five hits, walking two and striking out six for the victory. The run he allowed was unearned.

Sam Torreira had two doubles for Chapman (19-26), which had lost to Grand Canyon, 3-1, earlier Friday. Fullerton plays host to Grand Canyon at 1 p.m. Sunday.

In another nonconference baseball game:

Grand Canyon 3, Chapman 1--Grand Canyon (19-22) scored two runs in the top of the eighth to break a 1-1 tie. Bryan Lundberg had three hits and two RBIs for Grand Canyon.

Sam Torreira drove in the only runs for the Panthers in the second inning. Torreira, Octavio Medina and Brian Green each had two hits for Chapman.
