LATE NIGHT WITH PRINCE: Prince showed up at his downtown club Glam Slam following his April 16 Universal Amphitheatre concert to play some new songs in yet another of his patented after-concert surprise club appearances.
Hitting the stage at 2 a.m. for a two-hour set, he delivered a highly personal show in which he played every instrument except the drums and jammed with the New Power Generation band on rap, funk and blues tunes.
Among the new material: two songs about racism, and “Spank,” a song about child abuse, whose lyrics he read from a purple book. “How many have children?” he asked at the end of the song. “Don’t abuse them or they’ll turn out like me.”
