BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Yount to Have Arthroscopic Surgery

The Milwaukee Brewers’ Robin Yount, scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery today on his right knee, was put on the 15-day disabled list Monday because of a torn medial meniscus cartilage.

Yount, 37, was removed after the fourth inning of Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers with what was originally diagnosed as a sprained knee. Yount, who was hitting .245 with four runs batted in this season in 14 games, said his knee bothered him during warm-ups Sunday. He originally hurt his knee last week in Minnesota.

In Yount’s absence, right fielder Darryl Hamilton is expected to move to center field and Tom Brunansky will start in right.

Pitcher Mike Boddicker, acquired earlier Monday from the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named, is expected to replace Yount on the roster. Boddicker, 35, who is recovering from knee surgery, came off the 15-day disabled list Monday and has not pitched in a major league game this season. In three rehabilitation appearances at triple-A Omaha, Boddicker was 0-2 with a 4.60 earned-run average.

Detroit Tiger pitcher Bill Krueger was scratched from a start against the Royals after he aggravated a hamstring injury. Krueger (2-1) said he reinjured himself while running in the outfield on Sunday. He had suffered the injury in spring training.

Tom Bolton, the scheduled starter for tonight, started in in place of Krueger and gave up one run and four hits in five innings of a 5-3 victory.
