LOS ANGELES : Podiatrist Gets 10-Year Term for Insurance Fraud

Share

An Inglewood podiatrist convicted of insurance fraud was sentenced to 10 years in state prison Friday by a judge who called the doctor “a master manipulator.”

Brian Carey was found guilty in early April on 18 counts of insurance fraud and related charges. Before sentencing, the 52-year-old Pacific Palisades resident said in a rambling speech seeking leniency: “I stand here condemned, defiled and debased.” But Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William Pounders gave him the maximum term, saying: “You have no concern for anyone but yourself.”

Prosecutor Albert MacKenzie said Carey performed unneeded work and “preyed upon working-class people.” Carey’s lawyer said he will appeal.
