LUNCHEON: A “May Day Magic” luncheon will...

LUNCHEON: A “May Day Magic” luncheon will be held at noon today at the First Lutheran Church, 1300 E. Colorado St., Glendale. The event will feature professional magician Roberta Griffin and the Youth Choirs, under the direction of Cheryl Speer. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for children age 10 and under.

INSTALLATION CEREMONY: The Rev. James Sillerud will be installed as senior pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Granada Hills at 10 a.m. Sunday in the sanctuary at 10400 Zelzah Ave., Northridge. A native California, Sillerud received his bachelor’s degree in religious studies from UC Berkeley and completed his training at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena. A potluck luncheon will follow the installation ceremony.

OPEN HOUSE: Burbank Temple Emanu El will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday to kick off its new membership campaign. Representatives of the temple, including its religious and nursery schools, will be available to answer questions. Refreshments will be served. The Conservative congregation is at 1302 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank.

FILM: “Zamperini: Still Carrying the Torch,” a film biography of former Olympian and World War II hero Louis Zamperini, will be shown at 6 p.m. Sunday at Community Bible Church, 14339 Hamlin St., Van Nuys. Admission is free.

LECTURE: Christian Science lecturer Ann C. Stewart will speak on “What Does God Have to Do With Paying My Bills?” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, 24626 N. Kansas St., Santa Clarita. She will explore the loss of income and jobs in light of solutions offered through Christian Science. Admission is free.

PRAYER BREAKFAST: In observance of the National Day of Prayer, local clergy and residents will gather Thursday for the 20th Annual Valley Prayer Breakfast at the Sportsmen’s Lodge, 12833 Ventura Blvd., Studio City. Doors open at 6:15 a.m., with the event scheduled from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $20. More information can be obtained by calling (818) 893-6035.

FELLOWSHIP DAY: The San Fernando Valley-West unit of Church Women United will hold its annual May Fellowship Day worship service at 10 a.m. Friday at the Woodland Hills Methodist Church, 5650 Shoup Ave. The celebration, titled “Human Touch, Divine Healing,” will focus on personal healing of mind and body--both giving and receiving--through Biblical and modern references. DEDICATION: Young Israel of Northridge will dedicate its newly remodeled building with a brunch on the Jewish festival of Lag B’Omer at 10:30 a.m. May 9 at the congregation, 17511 Devonshire St., Northridge. Young Israel, the first Orthodox congregation in the north Valley, is under the leadership of Rabbi Aharon Simkin. Reservations can be made by calling (818) 368-2221.

RAFFLE: St. Mary’s Church in Palmdale is raffling off a $25,000 mobile home to raise money to build a building for the church’s kindergarten program. The 1982 mobile home, which was donated to the church, has three bedrooms, three baths, a living room, two carports and new carpets and paneling.
