A deliberately set fire caused $50,000 in damage to a clothing and toy store in a Glendale strip mall, authorities said Friday.

No one was injured in the blaze Thursday at the Discount Store Wholesale and Public, 4121 Pennsylvania Ave., said Glendale Fire Battalion Chief Mike Carter.

Firefighters found the shop smoldering in smoke and eventually spotted flames in the center of the structure, Carter said.

“Apparently, a lot of materials had been pulled out onto the floor,” Carter said.

“There was no reason for a fire to start in that particular area,” he said.

The blaze was the second arson of a business this week.

On Monday, someone shattered the front glass of Armenia Gift Shop, 900 E. Palmer Ave., and set the front portion of the store on fire, causing $2,000 in damage.

Investigators Friday were looking into whether the two blazes are related, Carter said.
