As Los Lobos celebrates its 20th anniversary as a band, members David Hidalgo and Louie Perez are working on a spinoff album. The pair is writing songs now and plans to have the collection ready for fall release. . . .

The re-formed Velvet Underground’s European tour will include some dates with U2, which begins the European leg of its world tour next Sunday in Rotterdam. Also joining U2 at various stages of the tour: Pearl Jam, Stereo M.C.’s and An Emotional Fish. . . . Charlie Sexton has recorded a song, “Graceland” (not that one, but one he co-wrote with Tonio K.), for the upcoming film “True Romance.” Sexton’s band, the Arc Angels, is currently deciding whether to go back on the road or begin work on a second album. . . .

Barely pubescent hip-hop group Another Bad Creation has a second album due on July 20. . . . Fresh from producing Willie Nelson’s latest, Don Was is working with Kris Kristofferson. Unlike the Nelson project, which featured such songs as “Graceland” ( that one) by other writers, this album will be all Kristofferson originals. . . .

Texas troubadours Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock and Terry Allen have collaborated on a play based on the diary of a Dust Bowl prostitute. The play is set to open in Philadelphia in June. . . . Jason & the Scorchers are reuniting for a one-month concert tour before Jason Ringenberg resumes his solo career, even though Liberty Records dropped him recently after releasing just one album. . . .

KRS-One is said to have beefed up production on his first album without Boogie Down Productions, due in August. . . . Iggy Pop has been recording in New Orleans with producer Malcolm Burns for an album due in September. Among the tracks is a duet with Lisa Germano, the former John Mellencamp violinist whose second solo album is due in June. . . .

Reggae band Inner Circle, best known for its song “Bad Boys,” the theme for the reality TV show “Cops,” is due to have its first major-label album in stores May 4.
