Billy Payne, president and chief executive officer of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, will undergo coronary bypass surgery Monday.

Payne, 45, was in stable condition Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was admitted Thursday night after complaining of chest pains.

“There is no damage to his heart . . . it remains totally normal in strength,” Dr. Douglas Murphy said. “He has not had a heart attack.”

The surgery will repair arteries leading to Payne’s heart, Murphy said, adding that Payne is expected to be fully recovered in six weeks.

Until then, A.D. Frazier Jr., the ACOG’s chief operating officer, will run the daily business of the committee preparing for the 1996 Olympics.
