Chino Shooting Competition Begins Today

Share

Shooters from around the world will compete for medals in the International Shooting Union (UIT) World Cup USA competition today through Saturday at Petersen’s Prado-Tiro Ranges in Chino.

But they will also be trying to establish themselves as world-class competitors, with the aim of eventually qualifying for the 1996 Olympic Games at Atlanta.

More than 300 shooters from 41 countries will compete, a surprisingly large turnout considering that the intensity of international competition is generally at its lowest in the year after an Olympics.

Of the 55 members of Team USA, 41 are on the U.S. national team and nine competed in the ’92 Olympics at Barcelona, including Bob Foth, a silver medalist in three-position rifle.

Team USA turned in a record-setting performance at last year’s UIT World Cup USA, winning five gold medals, three silvers and four bronzes, finishing ahead of Bulgaria (2-1-0) and Slovenia (2-1-0).
