Roars Tip Neighbors of Stray Lion Lying in Detroit Basement
For weeks, residents heard roaring from the basement of a vacant house. Dogs, some thought. Others knew differently.
A hungry young lion was found Monday night by police officers who were called to investigate.
A staffer from a nearby wildlife shelter tranquilized the 8-month-old, 150-pound male lion and took the malnourished animal to the shelter. It was expected to be placed in a zoo.
Some residents told police they thought dogs had been making the noise. But neighbor Billie Whetstone said he knew the lion was there. He said it was friendly.
