Who Got the Beards

Larry Forgione of New York’s An American Place and Jean-Louis Palladin of Washington’s Jean-Louis at the Watergate shared top honors at the third James Beard Awards presentation Monday night.

Forgione and Palladin finished in a dead heat for chef of the year. Restaurant of the year was Inn at Little Washington, in Washington, Va.

In the cookbook awards, Lynne Rossetto Kasper’s “The Splendid Table” was voted best book of the year and Richard Olney’s “Simple French Food” was named to the cookbook hall of fame.

The James Beard Awards are presented by the New York-based James Beard Foundation, a non-profit organization that works to further the appreciation of fine food and beverage in America.
