The Laguna Hills girls’ team and the Century boys’ team won Wednesday the Pacific Coast League Track and Field finals Wednesday at Trabuco Hills High School.

Laguna Hills and Century entered the meet with 5-0 dual-meet records. Wednesday, Century’s boys totaled 198 points to Laguna Hills’ 139. Trabuco Hills outpointed Estancia for third, 79-53.

On the girls’ side, Laguna Hills totaled 175 points and was not affected by the loss of points in the 3,200-meter run, in which the three Laguna Hills athletes who finished first were disqualified. Trabuco Hills was second with 117 points and Estancia third (58).

Laguna Hills’ Mayra Medina, Heather McGlone and Heidi Sickler were disqualified because they crossed the finish line holding hands, a violation of CIF rules.

The three were reinstated by a vote of the league coaches to advance to the Southern Section preliminaries as the league’s top three entries. Laguna Hills was not, however, awarded points for the top three places in the 3,200.

In one of the top performances of the meet, Trabuco Hills’ Chad Peare set a personal best in the shotput at 60 feet 11 inches, breaking his season best of 60-7 1/2.

Peare, who also won the discus throw at 178-5, wasn’t too impressed with his results.

“A two- to three-inch personal record isn’t much,” Peare said.

The shotput performance still ranks him second in the Southern Section. He is also one of the top discus throwers.

Century’s Lucinda Watson won the girls’ 100 (12.2) and 200 (25.53). Watson said she wanted to get out fast in the 200 after Trabuco Hills’ Rosie Manning defeated Watson in the league prelims. In Wednesday’s race, Watson won easily in 25.53. Laguna Hills’ Kelly Robson (26.16) and Manning (26.84) were next.

Laguna Hills’ Tiffany Boykin also had a strong performance, winning the 800 (2:23.1) after placing second in the 400 (58.8). Laguna Hills’ Shaheed Qaasim won the boys’ 110 hurdles (14.95) and 300 hurdles (39.7). Century’s boys’ 1,600 relay of Steve Mencha, Issa Freeman, Anthony McSwain and Randall Coleman won in 3:28.86.
