Three county athletes--Darcy Stuart, Brian Walden and Tad Heath--are among 20 finalists for the CIF Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The finalists were selected from a field of 535 candidates throughout the state.

Stuart, who is on the diving team at Capistrano Valley, has been accepted at Stanford and the U.S. Naval Academy. She recently participated in the Senior Nationals in Austin, Tex., placing in the top 16 in platform diving. Stuart finished third in last year’s Southern Section Division 4-A finals.

Foothill’s Heath, who will attend Stanford in the fall, has the county’s top time this season in the 800-meter dash at 1 minute, 53.54 seconds. The Knights were the recent winners of the boys’ team title at the Orange County Track and Field Championships.

Walden plays tennis for Corona del Mar, the third-ranked team in the Southern Section’s Division I poll. He and his doubles partner, Trenton Rhodes, reached the finals at Ojai and figure to be among the top three seeded teams going into the section’s individual competition.
