HANDBELL CONCERT: The handbell choirs of Northridge United Methodist Church will present a concert at 7:30 tonight in the sanctuary, 9650 Reseda Blvd. A varied program of sacred and secular music will be performed by three choirs under the direction of Gretchen Keeler. A freewill donation will be taken.

CHRISTIAN BRUNCH: The San Fernando Valley Christian Women’s Club will hold a brunch at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Airtel Plaza Hotel, 7277 Valjean Ave., Van Nuys. Cost is $12.75 per person. For information, call (818) 349-0741 or (818) 363-9417.

CLERGY ETHICS: Tempel Beth Hillel Community Forum will present Rabbi James Lee Kaufman speaking on “Sexual Ethics in the Jewish Clergy” at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Refreshments will be provided; a $1 donation is suggested. The synagogue is at 12326 Riverside Drive, North Hollywood.

PERFORMANCE: Cabaret Night with humorist-vocalist Erik Del Torto and his guitar will be offered at 8 p.m. Friday at Bel Air Presbyterian Church, 16221 Mulholland Drive. Refreshments and social time will follow. Cost is $4.

ISRAELI ARMY DISCUSSION: Myra Shapiro will speak at Congregation Beth Kodesh, 7401 Shoup Ave., West Hills, at 8 p.m. Friday on “What Did You Do in the Israel Defense Force, Grandma?” She will discuss her recent service in the Israeli army. Oneg Shabbat will follow.

RECTOR INSTALLED: An installation ceremony for the Rev. Ellen R. Hill, the fourth rector of St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, will be at 4 p.m. May 16. Bishop Frederick H. Borsch will conduct the traditional services, with clergy from throughout the region joining parishioners and guests.

Hill received her master of divinity degree from the School of Theology in Claremont in 1988 and was ordained shortly afterward. She has served the Studio City parish, 3646 Coldwater Canyon Blvd., since January.

AWARDS DINNER: The San Fernando Valley Interfaith Council will present Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley with the “Spirit of the Valley” award at its fourth annual Human Relations Award Dinner on May 17.

Honorees will be the Rev. Robert Fernandez, executive presbyter of the Presbytery of San Fernando, and David J. Auger, publisher of the Los Angeles Daily News. Rabbi Bernard M. Cohen, rabbi emeritus of Temple Solael in West Hills, will receive the “Interfaith Leadership” award.

A 6:30 p.m. reception is planned, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. at the Sportsmen’s Lodge, 12833 Ventura Blvd., Studio City. Tickets are $125 per person, with the fund-raising event benefiting the San Fernando Valley Interfaith Council’s human services programs. For reservations or information, call (818) 718-6460.
