DO PHOTOS OF CLOTHES PROMOTE VIOLENCE?

Share

I am offended and amazed by the two-page spread glorifying gang apparel (“So Uncool It’s Cool,” by Michael Eisenhower, Style, April 11). This is another example of the media contributing to the ratification of violence.

To condone or to legitimize gang clothing--even telling readers where to purchase the stuff and providing tips on how to assemble “the look”--can only contribute to the acceptance of gangs, violence, drive-by shootings, murders, drugs and other lawlessness.

Editor’s note: Was every ‘50s kid with a ducktail a hood? Was every ‘60s hippie with long hair a criminal? Today, is every kid in baggy pants and an oversized T-shirt a gang member? Designers marched their versions of this rap/street/ grunge look down the runways in spring fashion shows. Expect wider polyester pants in the stores by fall.
