HUNTINGTON BEACH : 6 Railroad Crossings Will Be Renovated

Share

Renovation of six Southern Pacific Railroad crossings is scheduled to start next week. The work at each crossing is expected to take about four days. Streets will be closed in each direction during the construction.

The renovation will start at the McFadden Avenue crossing next Monday. Crews will then move to Center Drive, Edinger Avenue, Heil Avenue, Slater Avenue and Talbert Avenue in succeeding weeks.

All the crossings are between Beach Boulevard and Gothard Street.

The Southern Pacific railroad will install rubberized mats to eliminate bumpy conditions caused by asphalt that has been pushed up against the tracks by vehicles, said engineer Douglas Kato. The rubber material results in smoother crossings, he said.

When the work is completed, all but one of Southern Pacific’s rail crossings in the city will be rubberized. The exception, at Warner Avenue, was recently paved and doesn’t require additional work, an official said.
