Woman, 18, Accuses TV Actor of Rape
Police are investigating a teen-ager’s claim that she was raped by Mario Lopez, a 19-year-old actor who appears on the NBC-TV daytime high school sitcom “Saved by the Bell,” police said Monday.
“What we have here, basically, is an allegation of date rape,” said Detective John McAvenia.
Lopez, who has not been arrested, was cooperating with detectives and denied the allegations during an initial police interview, McAvenia said.
Police will present their findings to the San Diego County district attorney’s office this week.
The 18-year-old woman, who was not injured except for the alleged sexual assault, told police that Lopez raped her the night of April 28 after she had gone to his house voluntarily, McAvenia said.
