CAMARILLO : Man Pleads Guilty to Molesting Girl, 8
A 21-year-old Camarillo man pleaded guilty in Ventura County Superior Court on Tuesday to molesting an 8-year-old Camarillo girl in March.
Defense attorney Joseph D. O’Neill said he expects Gustavo Avila to receive three years in state prison when he is sentenced by Judge Allan L. Steele on June 9. Avila could receive up to eight years in state prison.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Dee Corona said Avila spotted the girl outside the Camarillo home where he was staying March 21, invited her in and molested her inside the residence.
A second count of lewd and lascivious behavior with a minor under the age of 14 involving force will be dismissed at the time of sentencing, Corona said.
O’Neill said it was in his client’s best interest to plead guilty to a charge not alleging the use of force.
“No judge is going to impose a minimum sentence on a case involving force,” he said.
