Suspect in O.C. Gas Station Robberies Arrested in Stakeout
A man suspected of robbing eight gas stations in the past three weeks was arrested Tuesday when he tried to rob another one under police surveillance, police said.
Officers reportedly saw James Patrick Lydon, 33, rob a Thrifty Gas Station in the 300 block of Brookhurst Street at 10:50 a.m.
Detectives were watching several gas stations in the city, Lt. Vince Howard said.
Lydon ran from the gas station to his parked car where detectives were waiting for him, police said. He was arrested without incident.
Police said the robberies occurred at gas stations in Anaheim and Fullerton beginning April 26.
“We suspected it was the same person because we kept being given the same physical description,” Howard said. “He was not violent at all in any of the robberies and is believed to have used a simulated weapon.”
Lydon, of Anaheim, is being held at the Anaheim jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
