Long Beach : Sobriety Checkpoint Slated Friday on Atlantic Avenue

Share

Police will be on the lookout for drunk drivers and other traffic violators Friday night on Atlantic Avenue, south of Del Amo Boulevard.

As part of a continuing effort to reduce the number of drug- and alcohol-related traffic accidents, police plan to set up a checkpoint and stop every third or fifth car, depending on the flow of traffic, said Sgt. Wendall Armstrong. Police also will be checking for valid driver’s licenses.

“The number we stop is consistent, so that we don’t pick on red cars or green cars or pickup trucks,” Armstrong said. “Usually, we start with one of every five cars.”

On May 28, police will conduct another sobriety and safety checkpoint near Ocean Boulevard and Temple Avenue, Armstrong said.

Police routinely conduct checkpoints in areas where there have been drug- and alcohol-related accidents, Armstrong said.
