Friedan’s Emphasis on Power and Aggression
I liked the title to the article on Betty Friedman--”The Tireless Warrior” (April 28).
Like so many fighters, the fight is what counts. The adrenaline is revved up. Let’s fight and fight. There is a grisly joy in it. Watch the bodies fall.
Her emphasis on power and aggression rather than joy in its various forms merely brings out the male response: “You want to fight? We’ll show you.”
And that, on top of leaving the kids to the care of the least respected, gives a Pyrrhic victory where no one is happy.
