A $10,000 reward has been offered by Bank of America for information leading to the capture of robbers who escaped Friday from the bank’s branch here and from a daylong search by SWAT officers.

The 11 a.m. robbery at 12171 Seal Beach Blvd. touched off a chase through the parking lot of the Rossmoor Shopping Center and into the Rossmoor Townhouse complex on Montecito Road, where the robbers fled on foot.

Dozens of terrified residents were forced to hide in their homes or gather at a local Red Cross center for as long as nine hours while a SWAT team searched the neighborhood.

Karen Racusin, vice president and manager of Bank of America’s Long Beach district, said the bank is seeking “the public’s support in helping the Seal Beach Police Department and the FBI bring these criminals to justice.”

“We simply will not sit back and allow our employees and customers to be terrorized in this way without doing everything in our power to put these hoodlums behind bars,” Racusin said.

Witnesses described the three bandits as black men between the ages of 25 and 30, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 1, with medium to large builds. Police said they did not know what the robbers were wearing. Anyone with any information should call the WE TIP hot line at (800) 782-7463. The identity of informants will be protected, police said.
