‘Tax Revolt’ Protests Set in Simi, Ventura
Senior citizens, business leaders and representatives of Ventura County’s sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and library workers are slated to take part in two “taxpayer revolt” rallies Wednesday in Simi Valley and Ventura.
County supervisors Vicky Howard and Maggie Kildee helped set up the events, intended to protest Gov. Pete Wilson’s plan to use $2.6 billion in local property taxes to help balance the state budget.
Rally organizers say that plan would cut $60 million from Ventura County services, including law enforcement, fire protection, libraries and parks.
The first rally will begin at 9:30 a.m. in front of the East County Courthouse, 3855-F Alamo St., Simi Valley.
The second rally, aimed at west county residents, will begin at 12:30 p.m. outside the Ventura County Government, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura.
The Ventura County Taxpayers Assn. will provide a moderator for the events, expected to last about an hour.
