Post Offices to Extend Hours of Operation

Several Ventura County post office branches are scheduled to stay open longer effective Saturday in response to customer requests for more-convenient hours, postal service officials said.

The new hours will affect only the largest post offices in Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Ventura, Camarillo and Oxnard, where the new hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, postal officials said.

The move is part of a change happening throughout the service’s Van Nuys district, which extends from the San Fernando Valley to San Luis Obispo, postal officials said. Similar changes could be made in districts throughout the nation.

Surveys indicated that longer hours were the most frequently requested change in post office operations, said Thousand Oaks Postmaster Doug Leeds. Previously, most post offices were not open on Saturdays, while some were open for only a few hours, officials said.

Weekday hours were generally 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“It’s something the customer wants, and that’s why we’re here,” Leeds said.

The new hours will be in effect at the Thousand Oaks branch, 3435 Thousand Oaks Blvd.; in Newbury Park, 1602 Newbury Road; in Camarillo, 2150 Pickwick Drive; in Oxnard at 2532 Saviers St. and 340 South A St.; in Simi Valley, 2551 Galena Ave., and in Ventura at 675 E. Santa Clara St. and 41 S. Wake Forest Ave.
