The body of a 25-year-old Newbury Park man who apparently was shot in the face was found in the bedroom of his home Tuesday, authorities said.

Rudolfo Macias was found by his brother about 7:30 p.m. in the house they shared in the 200 block of Verna Avenue, said Ventura Sheriff’s Sgt. Marty Rouse.

Rouse said police suspect the assailant fled in the victim’s car, a light-blue Chevrolet that was missing from the home.

In addition to his brother, Macias shared the home with his sister and a second family, Rouse said. Police believe Macias was shot between morning and late afternoon Tuesday.

The victim’s sister noticed her brother’s car was missing when she came home from work Tuesday afternoon but did not notice anything else unusual, Rouse said. Later that evening, after Macias’ brother came home, he heard the television on in the room the two men shared and knocked on the door, assuming his brother was inside. He was surprised to find the door locked from the inside, police said.

Macias had been employed for at least four years as a busboy at the Country Harvest Restaurant on Wendy Drive near his home, Rouse said.

Restaurant manager Debbie Genovese said Macias was a good employee.

Police said they found no weapon at the scene and had no suspects late Tuesday. An investigation was continuing.
