Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : 14 Arrested in Prostitution Sweep

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies arrested 14 women suspected of soliciting prostitution in a daylong sweep of the Antelope Valley.

The women were arrested from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at locations that have experienced an increase in prostitution, deputies said.

Lt. Gerald Dunphy of the Sheriff’s Department metro vice squad said budget cutbacks have triggered a drop in street enforcement of laws against prostitution.

“Any time you have less enforcement, you’re going to have more activity,” Dunphy said. The women were arrested from several locations, including the 4200 block of Sierra Highway, 10th Street and Palmdale Boulevard.

Deputies said 10 of the women were cited and four were arraigned Thursday on charges of soliciting prostitution.
