GOLF ROUNDUP : Norman Ties Allem for Lead

Greg Norman shot his second consecutive 64 Saturday to tie Fulton Allem for the third-round lead of the Colonial Invitational at Ft. Worth.

Norman and Allem are two strokes ahead of the field at 13-under-par 197, but it’s far from a two-man race going into the final round.

David Edwards, who birdied three of the last four holes for a 63, and 42-year-old Dick Mast, with a 69, shared third at 199.

Lee Trevino and Raymond Floyd survived gusting winds to shoot two-under-par 70s, setting up a final-round showdown in the NFL Classic at Clifton, N.J.

Trevino, who shared the first-round lead in the $850,000 seniors tournament, has a two-shot lead over Floyd. Don Bies is a shot behind Floyd.

Mark James shot his second consecutive 68 and took a one-stroke lead in the European PGA at Virginia Water, England, as Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros, who have collected six titles between them, missed the cut.

It was the first time on the tour since the 1979 Swiss Open that the two stars of European golf had both missed the cut.

Kelly Robbins took advantage of the wind for a two-under 70 to keep the lead going into the final round of the LPGA Corning Classic at Corning, N.Y.

Robbins, who started the day one shot ahead of Hiromi Kobayashi, has a 54-hole total of 208. Kobayashi and Alison Nicholas are tied at 212, and four players, including Hall of Famer Patty Sheehan, are at 214.

Nancy Lopez three-putted for par on the eighth hole to win $110,000 in the LPGA Skins Game at Frisco, Tex.

Betsy King made a 10-foot putt on the second hole at Stonebriar Country Club for $30,000. Defending champion Pat Bradley’s eight-foot birdie putt on No. 9 gave her $25,000. Dottie Mochrie, the 1992 LPGA leading money winner, was shut out.

The $450,000 event ends today.

Arizona State beat Texas and San Jose State by two shots to win the NCAA women’s golf championship at Athens, Ga.

The Sun Devils, who trailed Texas and San Jose State after the second round, caught both on the final nine holes.
