SPORTSCOPE : Torrance Boxer Wins Silver Medal
Forrest Kelley, an 11-year-old boxer from Torrance, won a silver medal in the district championships of the U.S. Amateur Boxing Federation’s Junior Olympics at Obregon Park in East Los Angeles last week.
Kelley finished second in the 95-pound junior division for age 10 and 11. He is a fifth grader at Riviera School in Torrance.

Jim Garman of San Pedro has been selected to umpire at the 1993 College World Series that begins Friday in Omaha, Neb.
It will be his third appearance as an umpire in the series.
Garman was also an umpire at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and has worked the NCAA regionals 12 times in his 19 years as an umpire.

Cal State Dominguez Hills designated hitter-first baseman Ariel Martin signed a major league contract with the Chicago Cubs’ organization.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Martin will spend 10 days in the Arizona Instructional League in Mesa, Ariz., before he begins an assignment at Class-A Geneva, N.Y.
