COSTA MESA : More Than Cod at Three-Day Fish Fry
More than 3,000 pounds of Canadian cod will be served up beginning today as the city celebrates its 48th annual Fish Fry.
The carnival will begin at 5 p.m. at Lions Park when the first batch of fish hits the grill. Beside fish, the three-day event also features dozens of carnival rides and the Lions Parade Spectacular on Saturday.
All proceeds from the event, which is sponsored by the Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club, go back to the community to help local service clubs and other organizations. For $5, people get a full helping of cod and also a chance at many prizes, including a color television set and the grand prize Jeep Wrangler.
Since the Fish Fry began, more than $1.6 million has been collected by the Lions Club, organizers said. More than $100,000 is expected to be raised this year.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Victoria Street and runs along Harbor Boulevard to 19th Street, where it will veer west to Anaheim Avenue and end up at the carnival in Lions Park, 570 W. 18th St. The Fish Fry will continue until 10 p.m. Sunday at the park.
