ORANGE : New Interim Schools Chief Appointed

Share

A former superintendent of the Hermosa Beach and Oak Park Unified School districts has been named interim superintendent of the Orange Unified School District.

Marilyn Corey will assume the duties of district superintendent on July 1, taking over from Richard L. Donoghue, who remains hospitalized following a liver transplant last month. Donoghue also served as interim superintendent.

The appointment of Corey will not affect the district’s search for a permanent superintendent, school board member Barry Resnick said.

“She’s the interim till we find a permanent replacement,” Resnick said. “Corey was chosen because she’s very qualified. She has a good track record as an educational leader.”

Orange has been led by an interim superintendent since May, 1992, when the board voted to buy out the contract of former superintendent Norman Guith.

Corey’s husband, Stanley, is acting interim superintendent for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
