SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Storytellers to Weave Tales at Mission

Share

A storytelling series at Mission San Juan will continue today with performances from two storytellers.

The 2 p.m. show will feature Martha Holloway, whose stories have been heard at the National Storytelling Festival, and Tom Scott, who has acted and directed in several South County stage productions. Mission San Juan is on the corner of Ortega Highway and Camino Capistrano.

Holloway, a retired microbiologist, began her career in storytelling after her grandson was born. A native Texan, Holloway drew on the tales that were spun in the farming community where she grew up.

“We picked cotton in the field by hand,” Holloway said. “To keep the children going, mother would start a story and we’d have to keep up with her in order to hear.”

Scott is well-known in the South County theater arts community. He wrote, produced and acted in “Murder by the Beach,” which played in Laguna Beach. He also portrayed Jack London in the one-man show “Wolf,” which showed at the El Camino Playhouse in San Clemente.

Admission to the storytelling performance is $4 for adults and $3 for seniors and children under 12. For information, call (714) 248-2049.
