GLENDALE : Students’ Donations to Help Clothe Needy

Glenoaks Elementary School students have donated more than 1,000 pounds of children’s goods to help Glendale Adventist Medical Center open a new “Kids Only” room for needy families, officials said Thursday.

The services center oversees volunteers who run the hospital’s Thrift Shop, which will house the new 15-by-17-foot Kids Only room. It is scheduled to open sometime next week. A total of 500 families a week from Glendale and surrounding San Fernando Valley cities visit the shop to find clothing or other items, priced from 25 cents to $8. Those who can’t afford to pay for goods can take them home for free, said Catherine Pierce, manager of the hospital’s Community Services Center.

Over the past three months, an estimated 200 to 300 families a week have asked for children’s clothing, she said.
