5 Area Schools Win Honors for Videos

Five Westside schools have won awards in the city school district’s 1993 Video in the Classroom competition, sponsored by KLCS-TV.

The awards, now in their sixth year, recognize teachers and students from all grade levels for exceptional use of video technology and instructional television programs in the classroom to support and enhance the curriculum.

Those honored last weekend in ceremonies at school district headquarters downtown included:

* Pacific Palisades School, best Technical Arts elementary video: “What Did You Do in ‘92?”

* Westchester High School, best Technical Arts secondary school video: “Listen Up Now;” best Fine Arts secondary school video: “Quien Eres?”; and best Social Sciences secondary school video: “First Remembrances”

* Rosewood Avenue School, elementary school Focus award for “Trouble in Toothopolis”

* Bancroft Middle School, secondary school special recognition for “Lifestyles of the Intelligent and Popular”

* Wonderland Avenue School, elementary school independent student award for “Gold Fever”

Videos from Vena Avenue Magnet in Pacoima and Pacoima Middle School won the Best Overall awards.

The two-hour awards ceremony--which includes excerpts from the winning videos--will be rebroadcast Monday at 8 p.m. on KLCS-TV, Channel 58 (Channel 33 on most Westside cable systems).
