VENTURA : Port District Trims Budget by $417,000

Share

The Ventura Port District Commissioners will consider adopting a $1.57-million operating budget today that includes $417,000 in cuts in overtime, maintenance and capital improvements.

Although there is no money for salary increases, the port plans no layoffs among its harbor patrol and other workers, said Richard Parsons, the district’s general manager.

Officials made the cuts to brace for an expected loss of about $361,000 in property tax revenues distributed by state officials. If more property taxes are withheld from the district, officials will have to revise the budget later and make deeper cuts, Parsons said.

Most of the district’s income of $1.8 million comes from leasing boat slips and properties around the harbor.

The district leases 122 acres of water and 152 acres of land to entrepreneurs for the Harbortown Resort Hotel, about 300 mobile homes, 1,600 pleasure boats and 100 commercial boats.
