Pico Rivera : Card Club Proposal Is Dealt Defeat by 134-Vote Margin
A proposal to build a $35-million card club in the city was defeated by 134 votes, according to final results announced late last week.
The card club measure was losing by 209 votes when officials finished counting ballots the night of the June 8 election. The gap narrowed when officials late last week tallied an additional 314 absentee ballots and provisional ballots that had been set aside for verification. The final vote in the hotly contested campaign was 4,313 against the club and 4,179 in favor.
Developer Claude L. Booker said last week that he will consider taking the issue to the voters again next spring during the City Council election.
