Lynwood : Fired City Manager Will Get $48,000 in Severance Pay

The City Council Tuesday night voted 4-0 to terminate the contract of City Manager Laurence H. Adams Sr., who had been with the city since December. Adams will receive six months’ severance pay totaling $48,000, officials said.

The council had voted to fire the 37-year-old Adams last month, and placed him on a 30-day paid administrative leave while they considered hiring him for another job in City Hall. City officials said Adams’ firing was an effort to end the controversy over allegations that Adams was having an affair with Councilwoman Evelyn Wells. The allegations were made public in April, when Wells’ husband, Donald Morris, said he had videotaped the two city officials kissing. Days later, Morris was shot dead in front of his home. A city employee, Samuel H. Baxter, has been charged with murder in the shooting.
