LA HABRA : Hearing to Be Held Tonight on Budget

A public hearing will be held tonight on a proposed $40-million city budget that includes some money for capital improvement projects and no job or program cuts.

At a special meeting Tuesday night, City Manager Lee Risner said the proposed budget for the 1993-94 fiscal year is not only balanced but also includes funding for one new employee and storm drainage improvements.

Risner said he expects state officials to take $1.2 million from the city’s revenues to help balance the state budget. But “what the number is going to be, we really don’t know yet,” he said.

For now, the city’s proposed budget allows for $75,000 in improvements to the Bishop Street storm drain system, which residents have been requesting for years. Also, a code enforcement officer will be hired. The job was eliminated last year because of budget cuts.

Other cuts of more than $1 million were also made last year. They include: $362,000 for police car depreciation charges, $92,000 for building maintenance and $100,000 in workers’ compensation charges. Risner said all the cut items will be restored in the 1993-94 budget.
