Aliso Viejo : Clinics Reopen on Anniversary of Fire

Share

County Health Care Agency officials this week celebrated the reopening of the county’s alcohol, mental health and drug abuse clinics for South County residents, a year after a fire destroyed a Mission Viejo building set for use by the clinics.

The three clinics will operate separately out of the new South County center at 5 Mareblu off Pacific Park Drive in Aliso Viejo.

On June 15, 1992, a fire destroyed a Mission Viejo building housing the county’s drug abuse clinic, officials said. The fire came just one day before the county’s alcohol and mental health clinics were scheduled to move into the building.

While the alcohol and mental health clinics were spared destruction, the drug abuse clinic suffered extensive smoke and water damage.

Now, a year later, the three clinics were finally able to celebrate their openings in the same building. County Supervisor Thomas F. Riley and about 50 staff members for the alcohol, drug abuse and mental health clinics were on hand for the ceremony Tuesday.
