OXNARD : Boy Released After Standoff With Police

A 17-year-old Oxnard boy was released from Juvenile Hall on Friday after spending the night there for barricading himself inside a north Oxnard house and briefly aiming a shotgun at three people, police said.

The youth, whose name was withheld because of his age, was booked into Juvenile Hall on Thursday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The incident began about 9:15 p.m. when police responded to a call of a domestic dispute on Ironbark Drive. When Officer Martin Polo arrived, he saw the suspect running up a staircase armed with a shotgun, police said.

The suspect allegedly pointed his gun at the officer and two other people and slid the bolt back as if loading a round into the gun’s chamber. Polo then aimed his gun at the suspect, demanding the 17-year-old drop the shotgun. The suspect refused.

After other officers arrived and entered the suspect’s house, the 17-year-old allegedly threw his shotgun onto the driveway and was taken into custody after a brief struggle with police.
