Bell Gardens : City OKs Funds for Library to Reopen on Saturdays
The City Council has voted to provide funding that will allow a county library branch in the city to reopen on Saturdays.
The library branch was forced to close Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays and reduce other hours last fall because of budget cuts. The council agreed this week to provide $1,083 a day needed to keep the facility open for six hours on Saturdays.
Maria Rodriguez, president of the Friends of the Library, had requested the city funding, saying students need a place to study and do research on weekends.
The library at 7110 S. Garfield Ave. is open from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
The library will resume Saturday hours this summer, but the hourly schedule has not been announced.
