Three workers at McDonnell Douglas suffered chemical burns Friday afternoon when an epoxy chemical splashed on them as they performed laboratory work, fire officials said.

The accident occurred at 2:27 p.m. in an adhesive laboratory at the company’s Huntington Beach facility, 5301 Bolsa Ave., said Fire Battalion Chief Duane Olson.

“They were mixing some chemicals in one of their buildings and it splashed out of the container,” Olson said.

Joe Wright, 40, suffered minor injuries when chemicals splashed onto his arms and face, Fire Battalion Chief Mick Terich said. He was taken to the same hospital for observation.

A third employee, Frank McAllen, 50, was splashed on his shirt but said he was all right and refused medical treatment.
