Future Titan Overshadows Orange County All-Stars : Basketball: Dade leads San Diego County team to an upset victory, 107-89, in Summer Classic game.

Chris Dade gave Orange County basketball fans a glimpse of Cal State Fullerton’s future Sunday night.

Dade, a 6-foot-2 guard from Oceanside El Camino, scored a game-high 19 points and helped lead a San Diego County team to a 107-89 upset of Orange County in the first Summer All-Star Classic at Orange Coast College.

Dade, showing athleticism and poise, was eight of nine from the free-throw line in a 12-point first half in which his team held a 45-44 lead. He returned in the fourth quarter and scored the first seven points as San Diego increased its lead to 84-65.

His final basket, a monster one-handed slam dunk off a teammate’s miss, could have won the halftime slam dunk contest--he finished second to Mater Dei’s David Drakeford in that event.

“This is great competition,” said Dade, who has a scholarship to play for the Titans. “It allowed me to see what I’m going to be facing next year. And it’s a big deal to to win because Orange County and Los Angeles have better competition, so us beating them really does mean a lot.”

“He’s a flat-out athlete,” said Drakeford, who is headed to Oregon State and led Orange County with 16 points. “He can get off the floor and does a lot of things. Fullerton is real lucky to get him.”

Tied at 50 with 7 minutes 43 seconds left in the third quarter, San Diego outscored Orange County, 17-2, behind the play of Carlsbad teammates Chad Nelson (14 points, game MVP) and Kewan Shariff (17 points).
