Technicolor Video Adding Jobs Amid Move to Camarillo

Technicolor’s video duplicating unit hasn’t yet completed its move to Camarillo from Newbury Park, but the business is already flourishing in the new location on Mission Oaks Boulevard.

The payroll at Technicolor Video Services has risen to 700, up 27% since the relocation started early this year, according to David R. Elliott, senior vice president and chief administrative officer of Technicolor Inc., the unit’s North Hollywood-based parent.

And more jobs may be added in the near future, Elliott said. About 550 were employed at the operation when the relocation started in January.

“The movie industry has been making more pictures this year, so the demand for videocassettes for both sale and rental purposes has increased considerably,” Elliott said. “Also, production at the new plant is much more efficient than it was in Newbury Park, where we were scattered over numerous small buildings.”

By fall, when the Christmas video production season is at its peak, employment at the Camarillo facility could increase another 50 to 750, Elliott noted.

At one time, Technicolor Inc. considered consolidating the Newbury Park operation with a video duplicating plant in Livonia, Mich. Instead, the company purchased the former Everest & Jennings Inc. wheelchair plant, saving about 550 Ventura County jobs.
