The Moorpark City Council has adopted the city’s 1993-94 budget, a $3.8-million general fund spending plan in which revenues exceed expenditures by about $300,000.

The council unanimously approved the budget Wednesday after nearly a month of workshops aimed at cutting expenses and limiting the effect of tight financial times on residents.

The city plans to spend just over $3.8 million from its general fund over the next fiscal year, Councilman Scott Montgomery said Thursday, and to take in more than $4.1 million.

Included in the budget is $102,000 to fund the hiring of an additional detective for 11 months under the city’s contract with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Montgomery said. The city is also filling several of its own open positions and expanding the hours of some part-time employees.

The lighting and landscaping maintenance assessment for most residents will decrease from $36.36 to $33. The parks maintenance assessment remains at $33.20, Montgomery said.
