What’s the Thinking Behind Kings’ Deals?

I don’t understand the logic behind recent transactions by the Kings.

The team waited and suffered through a horrendous losing streak while Corey Millen recovered from an injury. He returns, the Kings return to playing great hockey, and then after the most successful season for the Kings and Millen, they trade him. Why? Because he asked to be fairly compensated.

Pat Conacher, probably the most consistent and tough player for the Kings during the playoffs, is also seeking fair compensation. Does that now make him trade bait? Jimmy Carson, who probably makes more than Millen and Conacher together, remains a King. Carson was a non-factor for the Kings after his return from Detroit, but I suppose he was fairly compensated for sitting on the bench.

The Kings have made money an issue and in the end it will be a crippling factor. I know Wayne Gretzky is “The Great One,” but I doubt he can play five positions for an entire game. This is the headache you are creating unless you open up Bruce McNall’s wallet for players other than Gretzky.
