Sick Society: Even Our Pets Aren’t Safe

* I cried when I read the story about Dylan, the golden retriever who was bound with electric tape and left to suffer a long and agonizing death (“Threat Becomes Real--Someone Kills Family’s Dog,” June 29). Did Dylan bark so much that death was the only justifiable sentence? I think not.

Sure, my dog barks a little. But if I ever thought someone was going to kill her because of it, I’d definitely remedy the situation. Wouldn’t it have been decent to have given the Hutchinson family the same choice?

My heart goes out to the remaining members of the Hutchinson family and I hope, with all my might, that the police find and prosecute the vile person(s) responsible for this cruel and senseless act of hatred.

Nobody is safe anymore, not even the family pet. It truly is a sad, sad world.

* Your article shows just how sick our society is becoming. Golden retrievers are one of the most friendly, loving and loyal breeds.

Dogs generally bark for one reason and that is to protect their owners and area. Retrievers are very good watchdogs and their barking helps to deter crime and violence. From my perspective a little barking is worth the noise if it’s protecting people in our violent society. The old saying “what comes around goes around” holds true and this sick individual will get his “just dues” eventually.
